It took anothe full day but the coal loading doors and latches are done and the ends are painted. The doors have to be of a thick material, 1/4 plate steel, or they will warp from the heat and not close properly.
Here the stacks are done and ready to install on the top. The caps on the top keep the rain out and the baffles are used to control the smoke so you can dampen the fire down, or open it up to get it burning hotter.
Now we have the top on. The piano hindge is strapped in place and is being spot welded on. Houston, we have a lid .
The stacks are welded in place and the thermometer fitting is welded on. We are very close to calling this a done unit.
The top is now painted. The side boards are on now, as well as the hood lift struts. The lighting system is in place and the temp probe is installed in the lid. All I need to do now is some final touchup on the paint and take a close look at the unit to see if there is anything I forgot. That happens sometimes with a project this large.
A little touchup paint on the cook grid and make and install the lid handle I forgot.
Now we have a done unit!!!
