Denise and Glenn can over and were assigned the task of dissassembly of the rear end.
Removal of the rear componets is done
On closer inspection, it looks like we will NOT be able to reuse the ring and pinion gears. Time has taken it's toll and the gears have rust on the mating surface and the housing is covered with metal flake, kinda like a snow globe. I wasn't wanting to, but I guess I'll have to order new ones.
The 1967 Camaro only came with a Mono-leaf rear leaf spring. A Multi-leaf spring was not offered until 1968. I really wanted to have a Multi-leaf spring on this build so to do that, I had to change the spring saddles on the rear. I spent some time and made a jig so I could get the new saddles back in the same spot as the old ones and also so the pinion angle would not change during the whole process.
First saddle is off............
.....and it's cleaned up and ready to weld the new saddle back on.
Jello Break Time. :-)
One done...... One to go.
The rear is finished and ready to take to the painters.
I wanted some contrast, kinda change things up a bit from the normal builds you see on the street so I decided to do the brake equipment with a darker "Cast Blast" look compared to the suspension and steering componets.
